Then his father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke this prophecy:
\n\u2018Blessed be the Lord God of Israel,
\nfor he has looked favourably on his people and redeemed them.
\nHe has raised up a mighty saviour for us
\nin the house of his servant David,
\nas he spoke through the mouth of his holy prophets from of old,
\nthat we would be saved from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us.
\nThus he has shown the mercy promised to our ancestors,
\nand has remembered his holy covenant,
\nthe oath that he swore to our ancestor Abraham,
\nto grant us that we, being rescued from the hands of our enemies,
\nmight serve him without fear, in holiness and righteousness
\nbefore him all our days.
\nAnd you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High;
\nfor you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways,
\nto give knowledge of salvation to his people
\nby the forgiveness of their sins.
\nBy the tender mercy of our God,
\nthe dawn from on high will break upon us,
\nto give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,
\nto guide our feet into the way of peace.\u2019<\/p>\n
